About LCD TV Repair
Older LCD televisions use cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) as their backlight source, rather than the LED arrays found in modern sets. These lamps, and the inverter boards that power them, have specific failure modes that are distinct from LED TV faults.
LCD TVs are generally older sets, which means parts availability can sometimes be a factor. However, many common faults — particularly inverter board failure — are repairable with aftermarket components, and the repair is often cost-effective given the nature of the fault.
We still see a meaningful number of LCD TVs in working households across Gurgaon, particularly larger screen models that represent a significant initial investment. We assess each case individually and advise honestly on whether repair is economically justified.
Common LCD TV Faults
Inverter Board Failure
The inverter board converts low-voltage DC power into the high-voltage AC supply needed to ignite the CCFL lamps. Failure causes a dark screen, often with a brief flash of light when the TV is switched on. This is the most common LCD fault and is generally repairable with an inverter board replacement or individual component repair.
CCFL Lamp Failure
Individual CCFL lamps can fail over time, causing uneven backlighting, dark patches on the screen, or a pink/purple tinge at the edges. Lamp replacement requires careful panel disassembly. We assess lamp condition as part of any inverter-related diagnosis.
Power Supply Board Faults
As with LED TVs, failed capacitors on the power PCB are a common cause of LCD TVs not turning on or powering off unexpectedly. Component-level repair is usually feasible and considerably cheaper than full board replacement.
Main Board / Signal Faults
Main board faults on LCD TVs can cause no picture, no sound, or input signal failures. We test and diagnose at board level and repair or replace as appropriate, advising on cost vs. the TV's practical value before proceeding.
